What You Need to Take Part

Applicants need:

  • prior experience with the programs of Initiatives of Change and a commitment to the practice of its principles, including the daily practice of seeking direction from the inner voice/conscience/God
  • a good command of English
  • to be between 18 to 35 years old
  • a receptiveness to challenge - to learn, change and grow
  • a readiness to take initiative, individually and as part of a team
  • an acceptance of the disciplines of community living, as indicated in the 'Community Contract'
  • a willingness to participate fully and to be flexible in different environments
  • a sense of humour

Process of Application

After you have sent in all the application documents, you should receive a reply confirming the receipt of your complete application within one week by email.  If you have not supplied all application documentation, you will be notified, and all documentation is expected before the deadline.

After the application closing date of 31st March 2010, the core team will review all applications. From this review, a short list of applicants will be made. Those short listed will be contacted to arrange a telephone interview.

Telephone interviews will happen from March 2010. You may be interviewed more than once.

After the interview processes, a final selection of participants will happen. You will be notified by 30 April 2010. Successful participants will then need to commence fundraising and meeting the Pre-AfL5 requirements. Action for Life will commence on 1 November 2010.

Finance (Fees/Costs)

Participants will need to fund the following costs:

  • US$ 2,500 course fee as their contribution towards food, travel, accommodation and other program expenses for the 5 months.
  • Participants need to cover the costs of a return ticket, vaccinations, travel and health insurance, and a six month visa to India and one other country. No participant will be permitted to commence the program without travel and health insurance.
  • Participants should provide personal pocket money for themselves.

AfL could not happen without generous financial support from around the world. Contributions - large or small - will be gratefully accepted at any time.

Scholarships

Fishermen in India

Action for Life is committed to ensuring that any one can have a chance to participate in the program regardless of their personal economic situation. Some may require financial support. Each participant is expected to do their utmost in raising funds to be able to participate. However, it is recognised that for some this will be difficult. For these participants, scholarship assistance may be available.

Participants will be assisted with fundraising advice and budgeting.

Action for Life will have access to many opportunities all over the world with the IofC network. Projects and opportunities will be discussed further with each participant.
